I think we all need a quick Maybelline lipstick 101 since they’ve already released three huge lipstick collection for us to swoon over in the past few months. In case you’re a bit confused — Creamy Mattes have the smoothest texture with shades good for everyday wear. Powder Mattes are the most light-weight and pinaka-matte lipsticks (its “matte look” is very similar to the Kylie Lip Kits but not at all as drying). Lastly, the new Loaded Bolds Mattes which are the most pigmented, boldest lipsticks with fun shades fit for the adventures makeup lovers. This means less MLBB colors and more vibrant reds, purple… and black! If you’re into costume makeup or if you need a certain blue shade for a festival party then this collection is your BFF. 

The general formula is similar to the Vivid Matte collection from last year. It’s a demi matte finish, super pigmented, and almost opaque in two swipes (except for Wicked White which needed a bit more swipes to look even). They lasts for about 4 hours on my lips before they start to fade a little, smooth in texture, and does not dry on the lips.

The best trait of these lipsticks for me is how easy and fun it is to blend some of them together. So, lets say you get two shades from this collection, in a way you are getting more than that ‘cos you can mix them together and form another shade. This is why having Wicked White (to lighten colors apply it on top of the other shade) in your stash could creatively go a long way. This rule works nicely with certain shades except with colors like Pitch Black. It’s a really pigmented pure black lipstick and it’s hard to add other colors into it. But just like Wicked White you can use these unique-hard-to-find-shades as costume lipsticks, or as face paints, which is similar to what I did with my old “galaxy makeup look”.

I love the combination of Fierce Fuchsia and Berry Bossy. Also known as… Fierce Bossy lol! Or Berry Fuchsia (okay this one sounds more legit). I also call it the-Veronica-Lodge shade cos it looks like one of the lipsticks she wore on Riverdale (high five if we watch the same show!). I wore Smoking Red the most cos it reminded me of Marilyn Monroe. It’s a classic red that that I feel would flatter a lot of skin tones.
