SM FASHION SHOW CELEBRATES RUNWAY DIVERSITY
FROM PETITE
TO PLUS SIZE
#SMFOREVERYWOMAN
It’s been years since I’ve attended a fashion show. The last one I remember going to was during the Philippine Fashion Week a few years ago. I had fun looking at the clothes worn by the models and the guests but, at the end of the day, a part of me still felt out of place. Like I didn’t belong there. I thought, “I wasn’t fashionable enough, not dressed well enough, and wasn’t thin enough because my body type was different from the models on the runway.”
At the time, people, or at least the crowd I was familiar with then, mostly celebrated thin models and curvy / plus-size models were rarely represented, if at all. It was rare to see a plus-size model strutting the runaway alongside the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio or Kendall Jenner. Which is why the SM Fashion Show Summer Collection 2017 was so refreshing. I loved how they featured models of every size — from petite to plus size!
FASHION FOR
EVERY WOMAN
Kudos to SM Woman for putting up such a great show! What a great way to celebrate Women’s Month and following other designers in practicing diversity in fashion. For example, other big international designers has already started including plus-size models in their runway shows, as well as adding more plus-size clothing in their line. This is a great change and more brands should follow their example.
Here are some photos of the collection from the fashion show. My fave are the “All White Everything”, which had a couple of cute beach cover-ups, and their “Yatch Club” swimsuit designs. You can find them at your leading SM department stores. The launch of their new collection also kicks off the beginning of Women’s Month with a special promotion for all Wednesdays of March, 10% off all regular priced items exclusive to all women.
