Tips & Tricks : How I Deep Clean My Make Up Brushes
Have you seen the movie Despicable Me? All the cinemas for that movie are full today. I’m confined at home, I got nothing to do, and I have a bag of dirty make up brushes on my desk. I have a terrible habit of not cleaning them as much as I should. I got to keep reminding myself that it’s bad because the brushes will accumulate dirt and bacteria that can irritate my skin as I continue to use them. So today I decided to fight procrastination and take you with me as I deep clean my make up brushes :)
1. Gather the materials you need ; water, your make up brushes, a clean towel, and a gentle shampoo. I use Johnson and Johnson’s baby shampoo for my brushes.
2. Take one brush at a time. Tilt the brush down and run under a warm water. This will avoid the water from getting inside the area where your brush is connected to its handle.
3. Place a little amount of shampoo on your palm and gently rub your brush into it in a circular motion.
4. Rinse your brush and gently squeeze excess water from it.
5. Wipe the brush on a clean towel and lay it on top of the towel after. Wait until it dries. It takes approximately two hours for my brushes to dry up but I leave them there over night just to make sure.
I hope you find this useful. If you have a different or better way of cleaning your own make up brushes please let me know. Have a great weekend! :)

Very clear and helpful tutorial. ^^ Personally, I use anti-bacterial soap, shampoo and a touch of olive oil. I've been meaning to buy some baby shampoo, though.
We have the same procedure on cleaning brushes! :) I am using Johnsons baby shampoo, too. :)

This is interesting. Never thought that J&J serves as a brush cleaner too! :) I'll keep this in mind once I got to clean my make up brushes as well. Thanks for sharing Shayne!
Nice tips! It's good to keep your brushes clean!

We kinda have the same routine but I mix a bit of olive oil into the water along with the baby shampoo. I sometimes put conditioner once in a while. Hahahahaha (Parang totoong buhok lang? Haha)
Hi sweetie, thanks so much for this great and easy way to clean make up brushes, you've also reminded me I need to wash out mine again. have a splendid weekend!

I use babyshampoo too to clean my brushes, only by a different brand. But other than that we use the same technique :-)
Wow ang daming brushes :D Thank you for this tip. Ako kasi magastos ;) Kapag ayaw ko na, I throw it away already. Though I don't buy those expensive brushes naman. I kinda regret it because it's an expensive practice. I often by cheap brushes without thinking that the cost of investing for an expensive set is cheaper in the long run.
It's really useful, I also wanted to thank you for your comment ;) kisses

you can try wrapping your brushes around a plastic bottle container and secure with rubber bands. that way it will dry downwards, avoiding the water to sip back to the ferrules (that may cause rust or breakage). :)

ou magastos nga yan ^^ its better to buy yung mga not so expensive brushes then deep clean at least once or twice a month :) there are also spot cleaner sprays. you spray them on the brushes usually after use. then wipe them on tissue para quick cleaning lang :D
thanks eli :)

i need to clean my brushes more often as well..and i keep getting frustrated with keeping the water out of the glued area..
Is that a microfiber towel? I dry mine on top of one and it dries faster somehow.
You've reminded me that my brushes are due for a good wash! I use a Daiso sponge detergent for a good deep clean. It's so cheap and it removes all of the stains :)
Thanks for this! Need to start cleaning my brushes! :)
interessante!!^_^non ho mai provato a pulirli cosi…lo faro!!^_*Kiss Kiss

I don't like wash them ;) I hate it! But I do it in the same way as you :)
Michelle Phan did a tutorial and cleaning brushes with olive oil and soap. The soap cleans the brushes and the olive oil moisturizes them again. I think that's working very well but I've also heard that cleaning them with regular shampoo or conditioner is fine too.

I use Johnsons Baby Shower for my brushes too! :)
