DIY Flavored Lip Scrub ♥
Been having sleepless nights after watching the pilot episode of Ravenswood. Have you seen it? There are some pretty epic scenes that scared the life out of me. I’m not sure if I am ever going to watch that show again, well, at least not alone :) In the meantime, Lush bubblegum lip scrub is still sold out in the store near my place and so I found myself experimenting on another recipe for a homemade lip scrub.
In the past few months, I have been using a recipe that includes olive oil and honey. I didn’t really enjoy the overwhelming taste of both flavors, and the color was not appealing at all, and so I thought I’d try a new recipe that could change those. This time, I chose the flavor strawberry because it smells amazing and I wanted the lip scrub to have that strawberry pink color. You can also pick another flavor that you like, which I will explain later on.
You are going to need a cup, lip gloss jar, sugar, Petroleum Jelly, and your favorite lip balm – I am using classic strawberry flavored ChapStick. This lip gloss is colorless when applied but the balm itself is colored strawberry pink, so that will also give my lip scrub the same shade. You can use any lip gloss flavor of your choice. I originally wanted to use the Skittles lip gloss but I had no time to get one.
1. Mix the petroleum jelly, a chunk of lip gloss, and sugar all together in one cup. There is no exact measurement for this, you just have to keep adding sugar if you want your lip scrub to be grainer and add more Petroleum Jelly if you want it creamier.
2. The mixture will look something like this. If you want to add more color, add more lip balm. I wanted to replicate the color of Lush bubblegum lip scrub so I added more chapstick into my mixture to achieve this shade of pink.
3. Use a spoon to transfer the mixture into your lip gloss jar. Keep pressing it down until its full, and you’re all set :) I actually like this better than my old lip scrub. But if you prefer using olive oil and honey you can also check my old post here.
I hope that you find this entry useful. Christmas is only a few months away and this can be a nice inexpensive little gift for your friends. Also, if you made one for yourself please let me know, I would love to see what you came up with :) Have a great day!

Ooh, what a fab idea. Must make sure that no one tries to eat it though haha, the Lush lip scrubs are edible but this one definitely isn't.
Might try this out :)

Very nice! Have you ever tried using coconut oil in your scrubs? It also has a very distinct scent, but personally I think it smells really lovely. :)

the scariest part was at the end ^^ did you like the show? im not sure if i really like it because the first episode was really slow for me and i hated the scary parts lol thank you duni :)
thank you misa <3 you can also use vaseline it should be available in any drugstore i think ^^
thanks rhain! :)
hahaha id prolly not sleep for an entire month if i watched hannibal, thats on the same level as Saw for me lol have you seen that movie?
did you post a DIY on your blog sis? :) i havent tried making a lip balm, i might do that one of these days :D
it is ^^ im thinking of doing the same too! thank you dawn <3
ooh i havent tried making homemade masks. will look into that. thanks jackie :)
thank you romana :)
thanks sis! post pics please :D
thank you charlotte i wanted it to look like lush's bubblegum lip scrub. its a bit lighter but close enough :)
you're right and its inexpensive to make too :) im actually thinking of giving one to each of my friends this Christmas :D thank you!
thanks chanelle! ^^
when you do pls post pics sis :D i might actually not buy the lush lip scrub anymore and just keep making this in different flavors its good and a lot cheaper pa ^^
hahaha it is really fast and easy to make thanks sam <3
anzi si, grazie seleny! ^^
hi sis! petroleum jelly nalang and sugar and youre all set :D im not sure exactly how long it will last, since the petroleum jelly, lip balm, and sugar last for a very long time by themselves. I'm guessing a few months will be okay, just avoid exposing it to water and other things that can contaminate it. my old lip scrub lasted for around a month (it had honey and olive oil). the only difference between this and a lip balm is its exfoliating properties :D let me know how it goes when you make it :)
interesting i hope you have a DIY of it on your blog anni :)
let me know how it goes. thanks juvy! :)
aww i wanted to get a lush lip scrub. im glad you liked this recipe. i also didnt like the one with honey so much :D thanks diana <3
hahaha :D yup i wouldnt suggest eating it, but according to my research in case someone did eat it, its harmless, unless they eat an entire bucket of it ^^ ive had one of those sugar scrubs before but i try not to eat them hehe, trying to avoid as much sugar intake as possible :P thanks linderella!
i thought that idea was great, now you can choose any lip gloss flavor to make it with :D i saw some pretty creative flavors like skittles and coca cola haha. thanks heather :D
its a really great Christmas gift. would be inexpensive especially if you are going to make a bunch of it. thanks bobbie <3
im glad you like it <3 thank you ^^
hehe thank you vee ^^
thanks for this suggestion rebecca i will check where to get coconut oil and maybe try it next time ^^
i hope you can share it online when you make one nina ^^ thank you <3
i thought that part was pretty creative too :D next time i really really want to try it with skittles lip balm :)
aw thank you deborah i appreciate it ^^
thank you so much kat, im glad you find it useful and welcome to my blog! ^^
thank you sis! :)
Thanks for sharing the procedure; will give this a try when I find the time. :)
Aww, it looks so pretty and professional. *w* You're right – it'd make a great Christmas gift.
This is totally something I need! Lately I've been finding my lips more and more chapped (which is really disgusting) because of the weather. Thanks for sharing! Will try this ASAP :D
I love the color Ms. Shayne! It's baby pink! Is it? WAHAHAHA! So cute! ^^
This is so nice sis, love that shade of pink!! Will try to do this soon since I only use my toothbrush and toothpaste to exfoliate my lips. Very helpful! <3 :)
http://beautychapter.tumblr.com
This is the cutest! I've always wondered how those olive oil recipes turn out because I do remember hearing from a cooking show that olive oil has a pretty distinct flavor (I don't notice it in food tho.) This seems more interesting than oil recipes :D
oh wow this is so awesome!! and so easy to make! thanks for this!
i'm so sorry.. i actually have no idea.. i'm a (closet) lipstick hoarder hahah! i have at least 5 lipsticks in my purse at all times.. seriously it's horrible.. and sometimes i'll put on a lipstick in the morning.. and after lunch change to a different color hahahaha!!
This looks so nice and easy. And I love how you packaged it. This lip scrub is just screaming to be used :)
Hey, I really like your post. Great blog!

Loving the finish product. It is very simple and strawberry is my favourite as well. I will try this definitely. If this was in store, I would have definitely purchased it for sure Shayne.
I have been watching some scary movies and the last one scared the hell out of me, it's called possessions. Me and my brother were sleeping in the lounge after the movie finished and roughly 2:30 some random music started playing. That scared the hell out of me and my brother. We both couldn't sleep, creepy

I made two little pots. They're perfect. Thanks Shayne!
this is the prettiest DIY lip scrub I have seen to date!!! I have tried the LUSH bubble lip scrub once, when a friend of mine showed it to me. it literally looked and tasted like a mix of sugar and bubble gum! I was so tempted to buy one but then I don't really need it since I don't have dry, cracked lips. hehe. keep your DIY posts coming! ^_^

oh :) im glad that this post was helpful for you ^^ what lip gloss did you use?
hahaha ^^ i can really relate with this
merci! :)
thank you sis! ^^ i envy your friend haha ive been waiting for the longest time for lush to have that available here. but now the longer i wait the lesser i want to purchase it bec im satisfied with the DIY lip scrubs that ive made ^^
Such a great DIY lip scrub!!

Definitely going to try this soon!!
Thank you for the wonderful post(:
im glad you find it useful dianna, thanks too ^^
I love this shade of pink and putting the lip scrub into little lip gloss jar sure makes it cute and perfect as little gifts. That's really ingenious of you to come up with this idea!
hehe i wish it was my idea but i found the recipe in the internet ^^ thank you jo <3
This scrub look so pretty! I make my own lip scrub too (and did a post on it), but I love the pink color of yours :)

what a great idea girl! lots of love!
thank you nikki! :) did you use different ingredients?
thanks rachel! <3
This is so helpful, I love making things at home, last time, i made a scrub with honey n sugar, it worked so nicely but was a little messy. This one seems better. Thank you
Lovely blog
With Love,
http://curlyscribbles.blogspot.in/
i also tried making that version and youre so right about it being messy lol! i even added olive oil, which made its flavor bit weird so i thought it would be nice if i could find a better way to make a lip scrup, im really glad you find this helpful, when you make one hope you can share it here too :D thanks prarthana!
Well done! I love seeing creativity, it's inspiring :) Thanks for this tutorial. I thought I'd never buy this original ChapStick again, but now I might!
thank you too! :) you can also try other flavored lip balms. i wanted to get carmex in strawberry but i wasnt sure if it would make the mixture turn pink lol :D
this was the first post on my fashion/beauty blog. any advice on how to get noticed? thanks
hi! thanks for including this in your blog and for letting me know, i appreciate it! and welcome to the blogging community!!! :) to answer your question you can make more friends & readers by visiting other blogs and leaving a comment to blog posts that interest you.
i love this idea, wanting to make lip scrub for a while :)) also do you think you could do a diys lip balm without beeswax, thank you love your blog :))
As for your skin? Petroleum jelly can create the illusion of moisturized, hydrated skin, all the while suffocating your pores. It's water-repellant and not water-soluble, meaning it merely seals the barrier so that moisture does not leave the skin. So while you might feel the instant gratification of a softened surface, you're actually drying out your pores by keeping out air and moisture.
hi sorry for the super late response and thank you for your kind words! <3 ill try my best to look into lip balms and perhaps do a diy on them :)
Oh damn, thanks for the info! I should prolly stop using it to moisturize my feet and just stick to body butters.
How do I use it? I feel dumb asking but do you just use it like Chapstick and leave it on or do I scrub my lips and wash it off?!?!
Haha it's okay I asked the same question back then, you scrub your lips with it and wash it off after. Some lip scrubs are actually edible thought, you can lick them off your lips. But it's sugar so I try not to, i could potentially get addicted to it.
Vaseline is petroleum jelly dear ^^
thanks! :)
I used this tutorial, but instead of regular chap stick, i used Maybelline Baby Lips in the Pink Punch flavor!
oh nice! i dont think we have that flavor here, will have to look for it :)
Omigosh I love this idea! Especially the colour! Thanks heaps!
Can I use thick johnson's moisturizer as substitute for petroleum jelly? thanks!
thanks sharon!
hi, sorry i cant tell, im not familiar with the product you mentioned.
What sugar do you use ?
So i had a few questions about this since it seemed pretty cool and i wanted to try it: is it edible? And how long is its shelf life once you make some?
